Skaters Supporting Skaters: Highlights from Our PFA Training at Uncle Funky’s

On November 7, 2024, we partnered with New York City’s Skate Community to host a Psychological First Aid (PFA) training session. Held at Uncle Funky’s, this event focused on equipping skaters with skills to support their friends through emotional challenges.

The training introduced simple, practical tools to help participants recognize distress, respond effectively, and connect their friends to helpful resources. Designed specifically for the skateboarding community, the session emphasized real-life scenarios. Skaters often find themselves supporting friends through tough times, and this training was all about giving them the confidence to do so.

The evening wasn’t just about learning—it was also about building connections. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with skaters sharing stories, ideas, and personal experiences. The open discussions highlighted the unique camaraderie within skateboarding culture, where mutual support and understanding play a vital role.

This event was a meaningful step toward blending mental health awareness with skateboarding culture. It showed the power of coming together to learn and grow as a community. The enthusiasm and engagement we saw reaffirmed how much this matters to skaters and how much potential there is to keep the conversation going.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to build on this momentum. More events and opportunities are in the works, and we can’t wait to share them with you. Whether you’re looking to learn more, connect with others, or simply be part of the movement, there’s plenty to come.

Thank you again to everyone who made this event so special. Let’s keep skating, supporting, and growing together. See you at the next one!

A big thank-you goes out to everyone who participated and brought their energy to the event. Uncle Funky’s provided an amazing space for the evening, creating the perfect environment for collaboration and growth. We also want to recognize the volunteers and organizers who worked hard to make this night possible. Special thanks to @gomez_7.0, who captured the highlights beautifully with incredible photos 📸.
